You might have wondered, “Is a Corvette a Chevy vehicle?” and here at Woodhouse Chevrolet we’re excited to help you find out more about the history of Chevrolet and Corvette vehicles…and to help you find the perfect new Corvette you deserve.
History of the Corvette at a Glance
There have been many exciting Corvette models produced over the years by Chevrolet, and when we look further into Corvette history, we see that Corvette has been a staple of the American automotive world since 1953.
It was first introduced at the GM Motorama in New York and, while the initial reception was strong enough to warrant production, changes were needed to be made for the vehicle to become a success.
A few years later, an engineer named Zora Arkus-Duntov convinced the Chevrolet engineers that the Corvette needed more power and more aerodynamic design to be competitive on a market filled with Ford Thunderbirds and other exciting two-door vehicles.
From there came the fuel injection system and more fluid designs that have evolved into the Chevrolet Corvette we know and love today.
Interestingly, Arkus-Duntov campaigned for a mid-engine Corvette back in the ‘50s so that it could compete with European race cars, but the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 was the very first production mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette. Arkus-Duntov was just a few decades ahead of his time.
